i am stitching again. with indigo of course.

it has a hold on me still.

i am thinking of this these days, how time and the elements wears thing...
and us. how a fringe can represent so very much. continuity and more.
time, wear and experiences.

meditating on the present

the next part in the tale of the little long shapeshifter.

which began here...

all quilted up and emerging bit by bit.

 

my favorite is still the backside

this small cloth is really a meditative piece, tiny stitch by tiny stitch. keeping my fingers busy and my mind clear (um well relatively).

a meditation on the present. the (right) now.

i'm finding that stitching is such a phenomenal vehicle for clearing the mind...

little long shapeshifter taught me this.

my first

a conversation between friends...

completed.

my first story cloth.

before this, i have completed a few little learning fragments. dipping my toe in the waters... figuring stuff out. but this one is the first that actually tells a story. still it was also a total experiment of course, different stitches and the fringes. but this one felt different. more intimate and i felt my confidence starting to peek out from behind the doubt. this journey is really taking off!

 

like indigo, fringes i've come to realize will have a special place in my cloth work. they speak volumes. of continuity, of the unspoken but that also warrants a place in the story. even if on the sidelines. waiting...

jude's response to a comment i left on one of her recent posts was to "make something to wrap around you, that will really do it..." referring to the intimacy between a stitched cloth and the stitcher. the deepening of that relationship with cloth... i plan to, but need to shake off that initial daunting feeling tugging inside. but i'm telling myself, that a larger piece can also be many smaller pieces put together. little stories that together tell the tale of a larger one. now that's not so daunting...

jude's cloth to cloth course begins tomorrow and i'm so excited!
perhaps the beginnings of that larger piece.

crazy for fringes

i've always loved fringes... especially worn ones, with character.

there is magic and stories there, all contained in knots or braids.

after seeing jude's fringe i was super inspired,

and figured i could try to pull something like that off too...

i also incorporated a bit of silk gauze weaving into my fabric base.

this piece is really so much fun and coming together nicely. lots of experimentation and i feel my confidence grow. now i'm afraid that i might have fringe fever.
